March Maternity Madness: A Sneak Peek!

This maternity session probably seems a lifetime away, for this client, who gave birth just four days after we shot this session! Congratulations to mom and dad and big sister on the birth of a baby boy. I had a wonderful time doing your maternity session and look forward to the newborn session next week!

Here is your sneak peek!

We shot some of the session in her home with a traditional black backdrop to focus on her baby bump. The big sister was very much a part of our session, as was dad.

I love the light and shadows this photo captures - and the color version really makes mom's beautiful skin glow.

The black and white version of the same photo is a more traditional maternity shot and feels so peaceful.

We had a beautiful, sunny day and took advantage of all the light in this client's home. Her beautiful baby bump positively glows in the warm light.

This lucky client has an historic home right in her neighborhood, so we captured a few photos with the beautiful white home and bright blue clouds as the backdrop.

A drive in Southern Virginia Beach

On Sunday, I went for a portrait-location scouting drive with fellow photographer Catie Cleveland. We hit the southern Virginia Beach/Pungo area and found some beautiful spring landscapes. One field in particular really stood out. It was entirely covered in beautiful purple weeds, and in combination with a charming old red barn and the moody clouds, it made a great scene. We hopped out of the car, braved some mud and "got the shot."

The Pungo area and backroads of Virginia Beach are some of my favorite areas around here. They're surprisingly rural and there's not a stoplight for miles! They also make gorgeous backdrops for portraits - whether family, senior portraits or even engagement shoots.

Here are a couple of shots of the beautiful field - just in time for the first day of spring tomorrow:
