Elizabeth at "Career and Kids" says: "I enjoy the “Coffee Break” links...there’s often content of interest to all working parents...and..Keep up the good work!"

Writer Sandi Shelton recently blogged about us, too! She said, "A website for working moms, called Work It, linked to my blog, which made me so happy because their stuff is so funny and so necessary out there in the world."

Toy Review - Leap Frog Fridge DJ

by Jennifer

15fridgedjradio1_v1_m565775698304_2Leap Frog Fridge DJ Magnetic Learning Radio
My son received the Fridge DJ for his first birthday. It was his favorite toy within days. He's 18 months now and it's still his favorite. This is a toy that really evolves as your child grows and learns--true to the age recommendation of 12 months and up. We've only had to change the batteries once and he plays with it daily. For $19.99, it's a bargain.

The Fridge DJ can be attached to your fridge--and some moms have told me they use it as a great distraction when their children insist on being in the kitchen while dinner is being cooked or the dishwasher emptied. But, we never used that option. Instead, the Fridge DJ is my son's little personal boom box.

The DJ has 13 songs and three "stations." Four teach letters, three teach numbers (although one of them is about the days of the week--I suppose you can count them) and five are favorite kid classics like Old MacDonald, Itsy-Bitsy Spider and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. A knob that's easy for little fingers to maneuver lets kids switch between the three "stations." A decent-sized button gives your child complete control over which song he wants to hear. Not into Old MacDonald? Your child can hit the button a few times to get to Pop Goes The Weasel.

When my son was younger, he didn't press the buttons, but he had his favorites. After a few months, he figured out the buttons and was a dedicated fan of the alphabet songs--he even started singing along. Nowadays, he's still an alphabet fanatic, he hums along to Twinkle, Twinkle, sings E-I-E-I-O on Old MacDonald and can count to about four when the 20 Leap Frogs song is on. Playmates and cousins all vie for the chance to get the Fridge DJ for themselves when they're over to play or my son brings it along (which is a must for him).

This is a great toy, both for the sense of control it gives the child and for the learning that goes along with the song. It also has two volume settings--a great feature for parents, plane rides and car trips. My only complaint with the Fridge DJ is that the music "station" is only music--no words for those popular songs. Despite this, I give this toy a big endorsement.

Comments

My son loves his LeapFrong fridge toy, but the best gadgety gift we ever received is the Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium that attaches to the crib. My son is 2 1/2, and he still loves it.
