The signs are all over our neighborhood. McCain/Palin - Obama/Biden. And as most five year olds are, questions are asked, especially since there is a sign in our yard and what does that mean.
It's hard to teach your child about the world of politics. My parents are of the same political affiliation that I am, and I am assuming some of their views and opinions wore off on my throughout my years growing up. And as much as I want my daughters to grow up independent, free thinking, good citizens, I also want them to understand why I am going to vote the way I do. And I know some of this influence (or brainwashing, as my husband puts it) will rub off on them.
I am passionate about what I believe in, and that passion translates into conversations with my daughter that when I step back, may seem one sided. She is only hearing my side of the tale, but what about the other side? Should I try to teach her the difference between Republicans and Democrats (and Libertarians as well)? Or should I let her values and beliefs be a part of how she is raised by me?
